Actors Acting Up Purpose and Goals
1. To provide an inexpensive place for extremely dedicated actors to work on their craft with like-minded individuals.
This is the main criteria. AAU accepts intelligent, passionate actors into our select family, allowing us to help each other grow by providing intelligent feedback. Dues are $50 per month, plus a $25 one-time fee to cover website updates.
The idea is to keep the cost of membership as low as possible, enabling the actor to pour monies into other areas to grow their career. (A typical acting class in LA costs between $200 to $400 a month. You may work only twice a month in other classes. At AAU you will work lots every week.) Everyone in attendance must have their growth as an actor as their own personal priority. The best in any field work hard!!!! All members come to class with the same state-of-mind, making us a cohesive, effective group.
2. To formulate a long-term group of actors who support and challenge each other.
The goal is to find the most talented actors, with the best work ethic. We find people who are committed to be part of the
AAU family. As a family, we are all aware of every other member of the groups current situation, and as a fellow member, e help to push them up to the next level in their respective career. We are, essentially, one actor, yet all individual actors. This helps each member to move along as quickly as possible in their careers, not making the same mistakes another actor in the group may have made. We are all actors that want to be at the workshop, every week.
Communication and team-building are priorities.
3. To provide a place where actors can get truthful feedback about their strengths and weaknesses, enabling them to pick themselves apart, and allowing them to streamline the process of "becoming their true self."
The workshop will be a safe place for actors to challenge themselves to stretch. We ask that all members let go of themselves, and allow their abilities to be criticized. Pointing out specific things (habits, ticks, tension, mannerisms, vocal patterns, tendancies, material most suitable, etc.) is very necessary in order for each actor to get to the heart of their true talent and develop their talent further. The more self-aware you are as an actor, the easier it is to adapt yourself to, and "become" a character. When you are your true self, you operate on a level gravitating up, moving toward self-realization. This takes away self-consciousness, social conditioning, and allows you to operate on a clear level. Always Act Up.
4. To provide a place where actors can prepare for their upcoming projects with trust.
You may bring material in to be work-shopped, such as: a scene from a play you always wanted to do, a specific acting
exercise, monologue, comedy sketch, something you wrote, etc.. You also are encouraged to have members analyze your
acting materials, such as: headshot, resume, reel, short films, writing, etc. Go to the "A Typical Actors Acting Up group meeting" page for more specifics.
5.To provide networking opportunities to other members, (As all members of the group are encouraged to develop work of their own) whether it be: staging a play, producing a short film, producing a sketch, sharing information on agents, managers, casting directors and offices, etc. Everyone is encouraged to help others develop their careers whenever possible. We are all a team. Once a member, you will have access to the members only page at the Actors Acting Up site, where each member has their business contacts, career goals, recommended classes, and other helpful information. There is also a message board for actors to post any information they wish to share. Information is power.
6. To grow together as a group, and individually, to the furthest possibility. (The group will develop projects, from within the group, and cast talent from the workshop, whenever possible.) We are interested in seeing each group
member rise to the next level in their career. We feel that if you constantly work to achieve the next step, "luck" will find you at every level in your career. We will decide as a group to stage showcases, do group mailings, etc. that everyone is encouraged to participate in. There is no pressure or obligation to cast members from the group in your personal projects. You may chose to participate in AAU projects or not.
7. Work smart, work always. Be an "Actor Acting Up"
